About us

Hi Sober Tribe! and welcome to the Sober Gay Socials website where you can find out everything that is happening in the group from events, podcasts and more.
Sober Gay Socials is an Award-Winning (not-for-profit) Community Support Group based in Manchester and was founded back in August 2021.  Sober Gay Socials is a transformative initiative that addresses the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in recovery. By providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive community, the group not only promotes sobriety but also helps group members foster meaningful connections and personal growth. As we continue to expand our outreach and offerings, Sober Gay Socials remains a vital resource for those seeking companionship and support on their journey to recovery. As well as offering peer-to-peer support, we are also able to offer group members access to our FREE Counselling sessions that are currently facilitated by an external provider.

“You’re surrounded by other people that are drinking and condoning your behavior… and you end up sticking with that.

The stall which most caught my eye was Sober Gay Socials. The stall was manned by Stephen Wilkinson, who founded Sober Gay Socials after recovering from alcoholism.

Quitting drinking is only the first step; adjusting to your new life is just as hard. Stephen said “We’re about building social connections which is what I missed most when I first got sober.
